Details: This workshop is a research based exploration of the fundamentals of EEG and its applications in medicine and psychology. EEG is the precise, complex and elegant expression of the myriad activities that go on ceaselessly in the brain, as it interfaces both inwardly and outwardly. Failures in the EEG lead to a wide variety of disturbances, including many psychological disorders. In this workshop we will review current understanding of brain electrical activity (EEG) and its fundamental role in mental activity. Topics covered include:
Fees:- The EEG and its generators
- Common artifacts in the EEG
- EEG and brain state
- Reading raw EEG data, looking for artifacts and patterns
- Quantitative EEG analysis according to a variety of systems (NeuroGuide, Mitsar, NeuroRep, SKIL)
- Failure modes of the EEG and behavioural consequences
- EEG changes as a result of psychotropic medications and street drugs
- Predicting medication response from EEG patterns
- Operant conditioning of the EEG – Neurofeedback
- Modes of neurofeedback – amplitude training, coherence/synchrony training
- Participants may bring data from their own practices for analysis
